Bryce Amphitheater Poster
14X36
by KerryThalmann
Bryce Canyon, famous for its unique geology consists of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in Southern Utah. The weathering force of frost-wedging and the dissolving power of rainwater have shaped the colorful limestone rock of the Claron formation into bizarre shapes including canyons, windows, fins and pinnacles called "hoodoos."

Bryce Canyon Hwy 12 Poster
For the average tourist, access to Bryce Canyon came slowly in the early 20th century. The road leading through Red Canyon was eventually improved, and given the official designation of State Highway 12 in 1923. Now classified as an All-American Scenic Byway, the road provides access to the popular Mossy Cave trail in the park and stretches from Bryce Canyon near the west end to Capitol Reef on the east.

Thor's Hammer Panoramic Poster
This panoramic photograph of Bryce Canyon was taken by James Blakeway and features Thor's Hammer. Bryce Canyon National Park is a wonderland of spectacular rock formations, resulting from millions of years of weather and erosion. These magical forms are referred to as hoodoos. An impressive example of one of these structures, known as Thor’s Hammer, is centered in this panorama. These totem pole-like formations consist of relatively soft rock topped by harder, less easily eroded stone that protects each column from the elements. The lower portions of these hoodoos are generally a pink or pale-orange due to the iron oxide in the rock, while the upper portion consists mostly of white clastic and microcrystalline limestone, resulting in the light grey, white color.

Bryce Amphitheater Panoramic Poster
This panoramic photograph of Bryce Canyon was taken by James Blakeway and features a sunrise view of Bryce Amphitheater, one of Bryce Canyon National Park's most visited areas. Bryce Amphitheater is the largest amphitheater in the park. Trails along the rim and through the amphitheater allow for spectacular views for the more than 1.5 million visitors the park has each year. The pillars of rock throughout the amphitheater are called Hoodoos. Hoodoos are created by erosion that has shaped the colorful formations into what start as fins, and then further erode into pinnacles and spires.

Bryce Canyon Official WPA Poster
Bryce Canyon Official WPA (Works Progress Administration) Poster
13 ½” X 19” serigraph print--contemporary design.
The Works Progress Administration (WPA) printed thousands of posters through its Federal Arts Project during the 1930s and 1940s. Many posters advertised national parks throughout the United States, from the Great Smokies to Yosemite. These high quality reproductions capture the grandeur of America's many natural wonders.
Bryce Canyon was the first poster designed on a computer and like Grand Canyon, is the most complex. Ranger Doug worked from photographs taken during the fire season which created a bluish cast to the atmosphere giving depth between the geological features. This design, along with Shenandoah, are the only designs without sky.
